March 30th is Take a Walk in the park day! Since we don't have a ton of parks open yet, here are a bunch of different places to take a walk in the Midcoast region- broken down into different territories.
Boothbay/Boothbay Harbor/Edgecomb/Southport/Damariscotta-
The Boothbay Region Land Trust and Damariscotta River Association has a ton of great hiking spots. Here are a few of our favorites!
Dodge Point Lots of neat trails, fun to see the old foundation, where they use to get shellfish and lots of different trails to take.
Ocean Point Preserve Beautiful woods and next to Tibbetts pond (fun skating in the winter!) It’s an easy hike (and has a special place in my heart since it was family land.)
Oven’s Mouth East A great place to picnic and an easy hike, can be muddy in the spring. One of our favorites!
Porter Preserve In the summer this spot has beautiful views, it’s fun to see the foundation of the old homestead and the trees are so beautiful and magical walking down into the preserve. Check out the old cemetery.
Bath/Brunswick/Topsham/Woolwich/Phippsburg
Bates Morse Mountain/Sewall Beach A bit of a hike down and back, but so WORTH it! The beach is incredible. It’s home to some endangered habitats and a conservation area- no dogs allowed. Be sure to check for additional rules on what you can or can’t bring.
Thorne Head Preserve An easy walk for little legs- the main trail is stroller friendly, assuming you have a sturdy stroller (a 3 wheeled stroller with larger tires would work best.) Fun overlook with a cute mushroom kids always like to sit on.
Hamilton Audubon SanctuaryVisitors enjoy the sanctuary for nature study, walking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or just for its quiet beauty.
Green Point Preserve- great view at the end! Some uphill hiking through beautiful woods.
Whiskeag Trail- 5 miles great for hiking and biking!
Josephine Newman Audubon- multiple trails to choose from with striking views.
Brunswick/Topsham Land Trust trails
And it’s not in the Midcoast vicinity, but it isn’t far and so beautiful! (See the photo above.)
