TGIF! Surprise Family Fun Day is Tomorrow!!

A Note from the Publisher

By Whitney Wright- Midcoast, ME Publisher July 12, 2019

Happy… rainy… Friday! (My plants are happy for the rain… me? Not as much!)

It’s been a busy week over here! My husband has been traveling for work and the kids were not happy he was leaving (never mind that he will then be on vacation for 2 weeks so they will get lots of time with him once he’s home) so I have been doing my best to do as many fun things as possible- trolley rides in Bath, Magic show at the Patten Free Library, boat ride with grammy and grampy while I worked, pancakes and playing at The Point in Portland… whatever fun we can squeeze in!

Saturday, July 13th is Macaroni Kid’s Surprise Family Play Day!

Plan a day of surprise fun (if you need some ideas check out our Free Summer Bucket List Printable), unplug, invite some family or loved ones if you wish and take the kids out for a fun day of fun! We would love to see what you are up to use #MKPlayDay to show us what you did! If you are looking for something fun to do check out Summer Fest at the Maine Mall, which has been organized by Kim, our Macaroni Kid sister in Portland. We are planning on checking it out before heading to the airport!

While my husband is on vacation the next two weeks we are planning on soaking up as much summer fun as possible. My son turns 3 on the 18th so we will obviously have cake (my little guy can’t stop talking about it haha) and I am hoping to plan something fun to do the day of his birthday- maybe Storyland or York’s Wild Animal Kingdom or something! He is having a small party at the end of the month (which I am rushing to plan because I procrastinated!), we are hoping to take a boat from Boothbay Harbor to either Squirrel Island for a day of hiking and fairy house discovering or going to Monhegan (for the first time!)

The biggest thing we have “planned” is going camping near Sebago for 3 nights. I am not the best camper in the world (and my husband isn’t either because he didn’t realize the one night we took the kids we borrowed a tent as ours was just a 2 person one) so please wish me luck. We haven’t planned a single thing- aside from reserving a campsite. We would go camping when I was a kid and my dad always had his itinerary planned out at least a month in advance, his grocery list, boxes of all the things we needed ready to go- and here I am wondering if the hand me down tent will be big enough and if the forecast of rain will change. All I know is we plan on paddle boarding, eating ice cream, cooking S’mores and unplugging- I have some books to read! My normal instinct is to plan and have things organized, but this isn’t my trip so I am struggling with whether I should take it over and prepare… or let my husband do his thing since this is his “baby”? What do the campers out there do? It’s not as if I am going to a 3rd world country and can’t run to the store… but you also don’t want to be missing vital things that you can’t find at 11 p.m. when you are soaked and miserable or something! Nothing like crying kids in a campground at night (or let’s be honest, a miserable mom either haha.) If you have some camping tips please share!

Hope you all go out and find some fun this weekend and enjoy Surprise Play Day!
