Girl Scouts to host 2nd Annual Green ME Up! Earth Day Festival at L.L.Bean in Freeport (Press Release)
Girl Scouts of Maine (GSME) announces that it will host Green ME Up! on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the L.L.Bean Flagship Store Campus in Freeport, ME.
Kid-friendly, free, and open to the public, Green ME Up! is a sustainability-focused Earth Day celebration aiming to inspire families to learn more about sustainability and help them be good stewards of the earth.
Green ME Up! will offer hands-on activities to get families active in the outdoors like rock climbing with EVO’s climbing wall, as well as archery, fly casting, and a demo on catch and release with the L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery Programs. Music will be provided by Earth Jams and Planet Pan, Lori Voornas from Q97.9 will be broadcasting live from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., and there will be an appearance by One Plastic Bag children’s book author, Miranda Paul.
Dozens of fun and interactive opportunities for families to take action and support the environment will be featured at Green ME Up!. Activities include making reusable food wraps, composting with Wormainea, recycling games with ecomaine, “Leave No Trace” activities, making tree jewelry with Project Learning Tree, and showcasing the L.L.Bean Boot Mobile and the latest in bio-fuel technology. There will be live outdoor skill demonstrations, like axemanship and a knot relay with the Junior Maine Guide Girl Scouts. Plus so much more!
The first 500 kids to complete the Green ME Up! Passport Challenge will receive a reusable stainless steel drinking straw courtesy of L.L. Bean, and while supplies last, families that bring plastic grocery bags to be recycled will receive a free reusable shopping bag. Additionally, Girl Scouts who attend and wear their Girl Scout uniform or swag will receive a special Green ME Up! patch and a 10% discount at Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop and Coffee By Design.
