Join us in celebrating Bowdoinham’s 257th Birthday! We have something for everyone and are bringing back fan favorites in addition to new events the whole family will love!
The festivities will begin at 6pm Friday evening with the infamous Chicken Run at the Community School! Younger racers have the ability to join in too with the 1-Mile Fun run kicking off at 5:30pm.
The 11th annual Celebrate Pie Contest will also be held Friday night at Merrymeeting Hall. Bakers looking to compete may drop off their pies between 4:30pm and 6pm the day of. Judging starts at 6pm and will be based on taste, appearance, crust, if the pie holds its shape when sliced and most importantly, is it pie! The pies will be sold by the slice on Saturday and the proceeds of this event will go to Bowdoinham Food Pantry’s Backpack program which helps to provide meals for students at BCS.
On Saturday, the day will begin with the annual parade at 10am, this years theme is The Wild West to the Roaring 20s: 1880’s –1930’s! Following the parade, vendors, games and activities will be open for all to enjoy. We are excited to announce that in addition to past favorites such as the Lobster Crate Races and the KenDucky Derby, we will be offering the chance to try your hand at Paddle Boarding and learn about bugs with Chewonki’s Bug Mobile! Children can try their luck with games and a coin scramble, or get their faces painted and enjoy our petting zoo! As always the Merrymeeting Arts Center will offering a variety of crafts as well as their Community Showcase!
This year the Merrymeeting Arts Center will be featuring work created by the community on the Local Myth: The Heron. They will also be offering Pottery Demonstrations in their studio space and running the Zucchini Races. Try your luck with your homemade Zucchini cart and see if you’re a veggie racing star! Speaking of vegetables, Bowdoinham’s Best will be back at Merrymeeting Hall. Come check out your neighbor’s prize winning veggies, fruits, jams, arts, crafts and more. Or enter your own for a chance to win a blue ribbon!
Grab the family and pile in for a horse wagon ride to the Red Rose Preserve Open House. Located next the Recreation Fields, the Kennebunk Estuary Land Trust will be hosting an Open House from 1-3pm with horse wagon rides running 30 minutes before and after the event.
At the Waterfront, local food vendors will provide a variety of tasty treats and delectable delights throughout the day. Grab a seat and bite to eat and enjoy the live music provided by local musicians and performers starting with Bob White, lovingly known as “Bob the Bus Driver” at 11am. Earl Bigelow & the Motown Affair will bring the day’s festivities to an end with their rhythm and blues with a Motown flair and the Fireworks will fly at 8:00pm!
