It’s Fri-Yay! Hooray!
I hope everyone has had a wonderful vacation week! It was so nice to get some outdoor time… if only the forecast for the weekend had a little sunshine predicted. It seems like it wouldn’t be Easter in Maine without rain or snow or cold weather… it’s as if the weather gods knew that I bought cute Spring outfits for the kids that can’t be worn if it’s cool and rainy. I am pretty sure they do this every year! We’ll just have to trade in cute shoes for mud boots, cute tops for rain coats and find some puddles to jump in!
We have had a rather quiet vacation week (we thought the little guy was sick, but I think it's allergies.) We went to Portland on Tuesday so that I could record a segment on 94.9 WHOM with AJ and Nicki- it was my first time on the radio and it was so much fun! (Thank goodness they can edit my pauses haha.) I will post it as soon as it’s available online. After that we went to The Point to play on the playscape and check out the vacation week activities. We wanted to meet Kim French, who is the publisher of our sister site in Portland, but the stars did not align because my kids had to run to the playscape as soon as we got there. Then when we finally were ready to move along, of course a diaper incident had to happen...
Several years ago when my daughter was potty training we ran out of diapers while we were in Portland- and then I also lost my car keys in a store and had to call my mom to come help me. I also had to call my husband to bring me extra keys (which we couldn’t do now, since we got rid of the extra car.) Of course my daughter had an accident and I had to buy her a new outfit to wear while we waited. It was only fitting that I was thinking of this the other day and then realized when we got to Portland on Tuesday, that I only had two diapers with me. Normally two diapers could last us the day and we have been potty training, but aren’t to a place where he would tell me out in public if he needed to use the bathroom. So after we used the last diaper I smelled him...again... and then panicked about what to do... I asked him if he wanted to go without a diaper and that was a resounding NO. (I couldn’t bring myself to ask one of the million moms if they had an extra diaper, because I am just weird like that. I would rather make a comment about not having a diaper and hope someone overhears me and offers one- seriously, I am weird.) I always tell myself I am going to put extra diapers in bathrooms for moms in a situation like this (I wish everyone had diaper dispensers like IKEA) but like everything else in the world, I always forget... or don't have enough diapers with me, case in point. Anyway, in the words of Tim Gunn, we made it work, but it wasn’t pretty. But hey- at least we didn’t lose the car keys or have an accident that required new clothes! And all of that to say, we missed Kim, but hopefully some of you got out to see her this week at The Point!
Anyway, this note has been a lot of rambling. There are so many great events happening this weekend! I am struggling to decide which ones we are going to check out. My husband is probably already exhausted looking at my list. Make sure you check out the Easter Egg Hut Guide, 5K/Fun Run/etc. Guide and the Spring Events Guide so you don't miss anything! (The calendar is chock full with these too!)
I know that the Oxbow Egg Hunt is one of my top priorities. The $5 fee is donated to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program which is near and dear to my heart and so many others in our community, especially those who had the pleasure of knowing and loving Madeline Marzen. It’s a battle no child (or anyone) should ever fight and any time we can do something that benefits helping those who have been impacted by cancer we will try to be there. And craft beer lovers will be happy to hear there is a golden beer hidden among the eggs. Fun for a good cause- sign me up. And definitely wear boots as it can get really muddy there at the corner!
Green Me Up Earth Day Festival at L.L. Bean, hosted by the Girl Scouts of Maine also sounds like a great time- so much to do and to learn about how to be good stewards of the earth.
There are so many egg hunts, the circus, Earth day celebrations and more happening this weekend. I am going to cross my fingers and toes that the rain decides to go away… but if it doesn’t I guess we will have more time for me to pack for my upcoming mom’s weekend, to Spring clean and move our kids rooms around (that sounds like fun, huh?)
Enjoy your weekend- go find your family fun!
Peace, love and pogo sticks,
Whitney
