Five Boothbay Harbor area Breakfast Spots We Love

By Whitney Wright- Midcoast, ME Publisher June 27, 2019

I grew up in Boothbay Harbor, I spent a lot of shifts working breakfasts... and many mornings enjoying breakfast out!  So it's always a treat to go to Boothbay for breakfast!

So I've rounded up my family's choices for the top five breakfast spots in the Boothbay Harbor, Maine area, along with the reasons that my family loves them. I've listed them in alphabetical order:

Blue Moon Cafe

54 Commercial Street Boothbay Harbor, ME 207-633-2220

Hours: Open Daily from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, Brunch on Sundays from 7:30 am to 12:00 pm (Closed during the winter)

What we love: First off, if you can snag a seat outside during high tide you cannot find a better view for breakfast! Second, Cinnamon Pecan Crisped French Toast and Banana-Walnut French toast. Oh my goodness, so so good!  Third, Bloody Mary's. It's a great, cozy little spot with lots of tasty items and a view right over the water that can't be beat!

East Boothbay General Store

255 Ocean Point Rd. East Boothbay, ME 207-633-7800

Hours:  Mon - Wed 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Thu - Sat 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM (hours may vary, especially during the summer)

What we love: Two words: BREAKFAST PIZZA. It's the best. Trust us. Second, the donuts during summer weekends. It's a great little general store with lots of great baked goods and sandwiches- and pizza. Technically not breakfast, but always delicious. Plus they also have good coffee, beer, wine and lots of unique, high end items for sale. We love taking our food to the town landing right down the road and eating aside Linekin Bay!

Harborside Tavern

12 Bridge St. Boothbay Harbor, ME (207) 633-4074

Hours: Monday- Thursday: 7.30a - 8.30p, Friday & Saturday: 7.30a -  9p, Sunday: 7.30a -  2p (open summer only)

What we love: Well first off, I hold a special place in my heart for this location. My mom worked here when it was the Blue Ship, forever ago, I worked here and then met my husband working here. It is under new ownership now and is clearly in good hands. It has always been known for it's cinnamon rolls, which still don't disappoint, a great covered deck overlooking the Footbridge. (I can't tell you how many times I admired the sun sparkling on the harbor and thought how lucky I was for that view!) Plus, stuffed french toast and Mimosas- you can't go wrong!

Mama D's Cafe

50 Union St. Boothbay Harbor, ME  207-633-3464

Hours: 7 Days a week, 7:00 a.m.-1 p.m. Breakfast all day, light lunch (hours may change in the winter) CASH ONLY

What we love: Another spot I hold near and dear. From the moment I walked in on my first day working there, it felt like home. You will feel the same way, as owner, Lorie (aka Mama D) makes everyone feel like family.  Breakfasts are always great- from oatmeal to omelettes, HUGE waffles and Teacher Pets (you must try it!), baked goods and breakfast sandwiches... you just can't go wrong. Add in great coffee AND Mimosas and you hit it out of the park! (Plus she has some fun toys for the kiddos!)

Waves

43 Commercial St. Boothbay Harbor, ME  207-315-6021

Hours: Monday- Saturday 7 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

What we love: Formerly the iconic Ebbtide, Waves was bought by a Boothbay local and his wife several years ago and they elevated it from a simple diner style food to something pretty special. The Benedicts are amazing. The hash is delicious. My kids go crazy for the breakfast banana split (and have asked me to make it at home, but I have yet to wake up raring to go and caramelize a banana!) It's a small space without space for large parties to sit together, but it's cozy and they have done a great job updating the space. (For strictly sentimental, eat all the carbs nostalgia, I really would love a cinnamon roll from years gone by though ha!)

Hungry yet? Me too! Send me all the breakfast!
